Semen Collection After Vasectomy: Care Instructions
Overview

After your vasectomy, you will need to make sure there are no sperm in your semen. You will have to give your
doctor a semen sample. The doctor or the lab will count the number of sperm.
You must wait for about 3 months after the vasectomy to give your doctor the sample. This is because you may
still have sperm in your semen for several weeks. Your doctor may tell you how many times to ejaculate before
sending in the semen sample.
Use some type of birth control during sex until you no longer have sperm in your semen.
Follow-up care is a key part of your treatment and safety. Be sure to make and go to all
appointments, and call your doctor if you are having problems. It's also a good idea to know your test results
and keep a list of the medicines you take.
